AT HOME CARE & MAINTENANCE

Thank you for trusting us with your tresses!
To maintain the health and quality of your natural hair and your new extensions, please take the time to thoroughly review the following recommendations.

Shampooing & Conditioning

  • Brush your hair before showering, to remove tangles and prevent matting.

  • Shampoo twice to ensure that all natural and extension hair is properly cleansed.

  • Apply a moisturizing conditioner such as Surface Bassu to the ends of your natural hair and extensions and brush gently with a detangling brush before rinsing thoroughly.

  • Use a moisturizing mask weekly to hydrate and nourish your hair & extensions(remember, extension hair is highly processed human hair and should be treated as such.) Do not use protein-based treatments.

Brushing and Blow Drying after cleansing

Important: Extensions should always be blow-dried and never air dried.

  • Use a detangling leave-in conditioning spray. We recommend Surface All-In or Surface Awaken Leave-In.

  • Use a Wet Brush to gently brush your hair in small sections, starting at the ends and slowly working your way up towards the scalp. Holding the top of each weft closest to the scalp to avoid pulling.

  • Spray a heat protectant, from mid-shaft to ends. We recommend Surface Blow-Out Primer.

  • Using your hands and no brush, rough dry your hair 80% of the way dry.

  • For the last 20% of your blow dry, you may use a round brush or paddle brush, with a small amount of tension, to smooth your hair and extensions. To speed up styling time dry each row separately

  • Avoid high heat when smoothing and curling.

  • Apply a hydrating oil to mid-shaft through ends to add shine. We recommend Surface Bassu Oil.

Sleeping

  • Brush thoroughly, ensuring there are no tangles.

  • Make sure you're going to bed with DRY hair (especially at the top of your wefts).

  • To help reduce frizz and tangling throughout the night, sleep on a silk pillowcase & tie your hair back in a loose ponytail or braid. You may also sleep in a silk bonnet for additional protection.

 Swimming & salt water

ALthough avoiding salt water is always best, we understand that living in a beach state means beachy summers. Before entering salt water, you must prep your hair to avoid tangling and matting.

  • First, coat your hair in a leave-in conditioner or conditioning mask. We recommend surface All-In Leave0In Spray or Bassu MOISTURE Mask.

  • Next, pull your hair into a ponytail.

  • Lastly, braid or bubble braid your hair all the way down the full length.

  • Shampoo, Conditioner, and blow dry hair that night to remove salt water.

Things to Avoid

  • Self tanners. These will stain extensions.

  • Sunscreens containing avobenzone and octocrylene which will discolor extension hair.

  • Protein Reparative-based shampoos, conditioners, and treatments. We recommend moisturizing products rather than protein.

  • Chlorine

  • Extensive pulling/tugging at extensions.

  • Air Drying and going to sleep with wet hair. This can cause mold and matting.

Please contact us immediately should you feel any discomfort or loosening of extensions so that we can make the NECESSARY adjustments to your beads or placement.

MAINTENANCE

Maintenance(beaded wefts)

It’s imperative that pre-book an extension move-up every 6-8 weeks. Going longer may result in matting and excessive weight on your natural hair and scalp. During your maintenance appointments your stylist will completely remove your extensions, cleanse and dry your hair, assess your hair and scalp to ensure health, and re-install your extensions.

Maintenance(Keratin Bonds, also known as K-Tips)

It’s important to note that keratin bonds cannot be re-used and new hair will need to be purchased, however Keratin bonds grow out naturally with your own hair and with proper at-home care they can last up to 3 months or more. During your 3+ maintenance appointment, your stylist will completely remove your keratin bond extensions, cleanse and dry your hair, and assess your hair and scalp to ensure health. Then, your stylist will install new packs or pre-purchased keratin bonds.

when to purchase new hair

it’s important to remember that all extension hair is highly processed and will shed and lose length over time. Proper care will ensure longevity of new hair but it is typically recommended to purchase new wefts every 6-9 months and keratin bonds must be replaced during every maintenance service(approx. 3-4 months.)
